The CFRC is comprised of ~50 faculty members from ten departments, who provide research strengths in areas ranging from basic science to clinical investigations. Its members garner more than $13 M/yr in extramural grants and contracts to support our CF research efforts.
The Center's program support is derived from core center grants from the NIH and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation that primarily support core facilities and Pilot/Feasibility (P/F) Projects:
NIH-NIDDK P30 DK072506-04 "Basic and Translational Studies of Cystic Fibrosis"
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation RDP:R883-CR07 "Cystic Fibrosis Research Development Program"

Research Funds Available:
The CFRC has offered P/F grants to attract new investigators to CF research since 1997. Applications for these grants are submitted on an annual cycle with review in late spring and potential funding July 1. New applications are solicited via University-wide mailings three months prior (April 1).

Recent and currently supported P/F Projects:

Xinyu Liu (Department of Chemistry)
"Decode the virulence signaling networks of pathogenic bacteria in CF lung infection"
Ronald Montelaro (MMG)
"Engineered cationic antimicrobial peptides (eCAPs) for the treatment of viral and bacterial infections in CF patients"
Marcel Bruchez (CMU)
"Discovery of new gene targets for CF therapies"
John Alcorn (Pediatrics)
“Type 17 immunity regulation of Staphlococcus aureus in the cystic fibrosis airway”
Agnes Swiatecka-Urban (Pediatrics)
“LMTK2 and TGF-beta signaling in human airway epithelial cells”
